Meet…LunaWire!

My name is Molly Swarbrick and I am the artist behind LunaWire, a small handmade wire-wrapped jewelry collection!
LunaWire is named after my beloved pup, and had its humble beginnings in 2016 in Vegas where I stretched my legs and started my crystal collection. After returning to Colorado and spending several years struggling in the teaching world, my husband encouraged me to go full time with my art in 2021 (part time creating for my own brand LunaWire, and part time doing facet work in the glass studio).
Since then, I’ve spent my winters creating and my summers out in the sunshine (and rain, and wind, etc.) sharing my art with the greater Denver area!
I love getting to see people’s faces light up when they find the perfect piece of jewelry, and I always strive to provide jewelry that is intentional, beautiful, and lasting..

What inspired you to get into making your own jewelry?

I started as a friendship-bracelet- and daisy-chain-making kid of the 90s/early 20s, and always loved creating pretty adornments with my hands! As I got older, I also found myself attracted to traditional wirewraps, but tend to be a much more dainty jewelry wearer myself. I jumped into the art inspired to created intricately woven things with metal that were more lightweight and catered to a wider audience of jewelry wearers! I also am inspired to create because jewelry and adornments help people to better express themselves and feel good in their skin. I love helping people find pieces that inspire them and boost confidence as well!

For the uninitiated, what is wire-wrapping and how does it work?

Wirewrapping is a process of taking different shapes and gauges of wire (in my case, mostly sterling silver) and weaving, coiling, and shaping them to hold crystals in pieces of wearable jewelry art!

It may surprise some people, but no heat or welding is applied to the metal in my pieces–all of the work is done with a variety of pliers and my fingers. Each component is carefully crafted then fixed to a frame to create clean, secure settings that last!

What goes into the selection of gems or other centerpieces for you?

Choosing stones for pieces may be my favorite part of the job! Getting to go search through the stacks of trays to cherry pick the very best specimens is always such an exciting thing. I typically lean toward lots of the most natural minerals and gems, sometimes even in their most raw forms. I personally tend to be drawn to lots of cool tones, so I usually have to challenge myself to select (and create) with a whole range of hues.

When it comes to selecting stones for specific pieces, sometimes I select stones based on a pendant shape I’m feeling inspired by, other times I create frames based on a specific stone. It really just depends on how I’m feeling creatively for the day/how specific crystals may inspire me!

What do you like about markets vs selling in stores, online, etc.?

No competition, markets are my absolute favorite. Nothing quite matches the actual human connection that comes from introducing my art to people face to face.

Online and even consignment selling can feel so isolating–markets have brought me not only amazing collectors but also a really supportive community of fellow artists and local small businesses!

Is there anything you’re focusing on for your business or your art this year?

To that effect, I’m hoping to expand to some new markets this year while also still riding with my favorite tried and true markets!
This year is about continuing to try new things while providing truly high quality pieces that are intentional and energetically supportive.
