Frequently Asked Questions
What is Market in the Park-et (MitP)?
It’s just what it sounds like… a wonderful day of spontaneous shopping in the park. We feature over 50 local small businesses offering curated vintage clothing, handmade custom garments, home decor, original artwork, food and drink, and much more. Every market offers something different and unique. We also have food trucks, lawn games, a playlist curated by the organizer, and great park views, making MitP a shopping experience like no other in Denver, Colorado.
Is it *ALL* Vintage & Handmade?
That’s our goal! But that can sometimes get complicated, and there are some things to consider depending on what category the vendor is in.
As much as possible, we prioritize locally-made and locally-sourced items, and we do not allow wholesale, fair trade, MLM, drop-shipped, or franchise businesses.
See anything at the market that you suspect isn’t up to our standards? You can always get in touch and we’ll look into it.
VINTAGE & SECONDHAND CLOTHING
Many of our vendors specialize in vintage finds, which are defined as pieces that are 20 years or older. As such, this may include some y2k-era pieces (2006). We have many secondhand vendors who prioritize keeping pieces in circulation regardless of their age, and may include contemporary pieces. We ask that vendors properly label modern pieces, but if a buyer is concerned about the origin of a piece, the best things to do is ask the vendor directly.
UPCYCLED/CUSTOM CLOTHING
We require that our up-cycled vendors make their creations themselves, but we do not regulate the materials they use.
Some of our vendors create original graphic designs, printed onto “blank” clothing or accessories, using a variety of processes. This clothing may be vintage or modern. We do not regulate the printing process. We do regulate that it is the maker’s original work, and that it is not made using generative A.I.
Embroidery must be done by the maker themselves, but can be machine-assisted or by hand.
HOME DECOR
Our vintage home decor vendors will provide pieces that are 20 years or older, or otherwise properly labeled if age is unknown or if it is a modern, but in-demand, item.
Some home decor is contemporary, but created by the maker representing that booth.
WELLNESS
Vendors who make wellness items, including candles, soap, herbal remedies, etc are creating their items themselves. However, packaging of items may be made by them, or provided through third parties.
MINERALS
Our vendors specializing in gems, crystals, and other minerals may or may not be mining all gems themselves. They usually have a variety of different sources. Many may work in partnership with local jewelers, or rework minerals into a variety of different items. If the origin of a product is a concern, the best thing to do is communicate with the vendor.
JEWELRY
Most jewelry will be handmade by the jeweler, but some may be sourced vintage pieces, depending on the vendor.
Some are up-cycled or re-worked from vintage or secondhand pieces. We encourage these jewelers to use existing materials, but we do not regulate this. To our market, the act of converting these items into wearable jewelry suffices as a handmade, local creation.
Permanent Jewelry is its own category and will likely be modern.
ARTWORK
Our market’s art vendors create their artwork themselves without using generative A.I., whether digital or analog. We do not regulate the printing process or materials of any stickers or prints. Their intellectual property is their handmade work.
This applies to ceramic, fiber, fine art, photographers, tattoo, sculpture, and more.
FOOD & DRINK
Food & Drink vendors are creating the food themselves, often in front of you at the market. We do not regulate the origin of any ingredients.
PET PRODUCTS
Pet products including food, leashes, toys etc. are expected to be made by the vendor or their local team. Packaging of items may be made by them, or provided through third parties.
RECORDS
Records at the market can be secondhand, or a mix of secondhand and new releases, depending on the vendor.
Where and when are the markets?
Our markets are once a month from April to October. For the exact dates, check out this page. Historically, all of our markets have occurred at the beautiful Boathouse in Washington Park. Our vendors setup inside and outside the Boathouse, and on the lawn right next to it. It’s a big party and you can’t miss us!
But this year, we will have our September market at City Park! It’s going to be an even bigger market, celebrating our 2 year anniversary. You’ll find all of us at the City Park Pavilion on Ferril Lake. All other markets this year will still be at our spiritual home, Wash Park.
How much does it cost?
Our markets are completely FREE.
What about parking?
There is FREE street parking all over the surrounding neighborhoods at both Washington and City Park. There are also free parking lots right next to Smith and Ferril Lakes, but spots can fill up pretty fast. Luckily, even on a busy day at the park, there is usually a decent spot to be found and a brief and scenic walk will get you right to the market.
Can I bring my cute dog?
Not only can you, but we hope you do! Market in the Park-et is the most dog-friendly market in the city. We have even had vendors specifically selling pet-friendly toys and gifts. Check out our Instagram for some of our favorite dog friends that we’ve met at our markets!
Is the market accessible?
Yes! Our wonderful Denver Parks and Recreation teams have gone to great lengths to make sure our city’s parks are ADA-compliant and accessible to as many people as possible. Everyone is welcome at Market in the Park-et. If you have any further questions about this, please contact us.
Can I sell at Market in the Park-et?
We are always accepting vendors! Please see the vendor page for more information about that.
