Meet…Cutting Bored Cameras!

My name is Jordan and my business name is Cutting Bored Cameras.
I provide mostly beginner-friendly vintage cameras for those looking to begin their photography journeys, expand their collections or just try something new.
I have only been doing this since the fall of 2025 but have really fallen in love with everything about the process.

This business is relatively new for you. Tell us how you got to the point of starting Cutting Bored.

I have always been into cameras and my career is in the video production industry. For some reason it took me until June of 2025 to purchase my first film camera. From the moment I shot through my first roll of film I became obsessed with it. I realized there was an entire world of cameras, accessories and techniques I had been missing out on and it inspired me to go out and shoot photographs more than any other time in my life.

I eventually discovered you could purchase un-tested cameras in bulk, and that intrigued me. I ended up with way too many cameras and decided if I am going to keep buying I must begin to sell. I started on Facebook Marketplace and sold cameras quickly. I knew I had something people were interested in so I wanted to try selling at some IRL markets. My second market ever was Market in the Park-et and after that day, I knew I could continue to do this.

What do you like about film cameras vs digital photography?

What I enjoy about film cameras the most is that it forces you to slow down and really be picky about what you are going to shoot. Each time you press the shutter it costs money so it is important to make each shot count. I also love that you cannot see what you shot right away. There is something about the anticipation of receiving a roll of film back that is magical. It is a much more hands-on experience. I also love discovering new cameras and learning how the art of photography changed as technology advanced as I research old film cameras.

Digital photography is wonderful because you do not have to pay to develop the film. You can improve your skills quickly and have more control over editing. I would say most budget digital cameras will not come close to the quality of a film camera at the same price point. Digital cameras are really great for true beginners because most have fully automatic modes with built in flash.

What’s been your favorite thing about selling these cameras at markets?

My favorite thing about selling cameras at markets has been meeting new people with similar interests. It is always fun to chat with those attending markets and especially other vendors.

This is an awesome community of people! Selling cameras at markets has also allowed me to continue to purchase more cameras to learn about, clean, maintain and give new life.

What are some of your favorite cameras in stock right now?

My favorite camera that I have in stock right now, and most of the time, is the Canon A1. It is a relatively affordable SLR film camera that performs way above its pay grade. It has really advanced features and is perfect for a beginner because it can be fully automatic, but allows you to work your way up to the fully manual modes.

I also have a good selection of point and shoot film cameras like the Olympus Stylus. These are fun and pocketable cameras that can provide some great results.

Where do you see photography going in the near or distant future?

I see film still having a bit more of a comeback than it already has. People are interested in photography but are sick of the distractions that mobile devices bring.

Shooting film and even old digital cameras forces you to focus more on your surroundings and look at life through a different perspective.
