Meet….Emerson Art!

Hi friends! I am Emily Emerson, the creator of Emerson Art. I am a mixed media artist and Colorado-born.
I have been practicing all my life and professional artist for 10 years.
Tell us about the moment when you knew you wanted to pursue art.
I knew that it needed to be my career because I was getting in trouble at work for getting distracted by creative projects (that I wasn’t assigned but made myself). I believe I was meant to live an artist’s life.
What are some things, experiences, or beliefs that inspire/influence your work?
Community and connection.
I want my artwork to show visual moments that convey a feeling. Nostalgia strongly influences my work.
What has been the most challenging piece for you to create so far in your career?
To All the Fish I’ve had Before
It was my first time working with a subject that is reflective / transparent. When I finished it, it felt like I was leveling up.

You designed the graphic art for last September’s “City Park Invasion.” What was that process like? Was it different from your normal workflow?
It was a concept I had played with before, “if I were an alien, what would I take with me to my home planet.” I knew it would be perfect with MitP with all the eclectic goodies from all the different local vendors. My goal was to showcase to the audience little easter eggs of all the possibilities of what they could find.
It was different from my normal work flow because it was digital! But I love that I was able to capture my collage style in a digital format.
Where would you like to see your artistic practice go in the near, or distant, future?
I would like to see my business continue to grow. It would be amazing to travel for the art! I would love to do a market in New York or San Francisco.
Where can we follow you, support you, catch you, etc?
Follow @ Emerson.Art + @ making_the_space on instagram to keep up with me! Catch me at an event, market or drag show!
