This year, we’re highlighting people who have played a role in making our markets so great. Today, we are thrilled to introduce you to…
Allison Young of @alleycatkitsch!
Hi! My name is Allison Young, but a lot of folks call me Alli. I’m the owner of Alley Cat Kitsch. I’ve been casually reselling for years, but officially started my business in 2015.
What inspired you to get into vintage knick-knacks/clothing?
I have loved vintage for as long as I can remember! I went to my first yard sale at 5, and my parents started taking me to auctions not long after. I was immediately enamored with the beauty and quality of items from the past. Then, I started wearing vintage clothing in high school, and never looked back!
What’s your favorite thing to go searching for?
My favorite things to source and sell are vintage toys! I love it all, but toys (and their collectors) are what has kept me excited and engaged in this business for years.

How does Alley Cat Kitsch fit into the world of “sustainable shopping”? Is that something that motivates you as you source?
Sustainability has always influenced my business and personal choices. When you spend your life going to thrifts/estate sales/auctions/etc. you see how much STUFF heads to the landfills. Anything I can do to give an item a longer life is worthwhile!
What advice would you give to someone looking to shop more sustainably but doesn’t know where to start?
If thrift stores aren’t your vibe, look into a local clothing swap. (Strawberry Mountain hosts a great one!) Estate sales are a good place to look for furniture or other things for your home, but go later in the day if crowds bother you.
Is there anything in particular you’re bringing to the next market that you are excited to share?

A pile of Caboodles!! I’ve been collecting these quirky 90s make-up cases for years. I decided to let some go, but I’ve been saving ’em for the park!
Where can we follow you, support you, catch you, etc?
You can follow me on Instagram @alleycat_kitsch to keep up with markets and catch some online sales. I also own Alley Cat Karaoke and host regular weekly and monthly shows around Denver. You can keep up with those on Instagram at @mustardgasandroses
